Daryl Avery served in the United States Air Force for eight years working as Munitions Systems Specialist.  During this time frame he gained a high level of respect for weapons and explosives safety.  

After making the transition to civilian life, he continued down the safety path when he was hired as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist with the United States Marine Corps.  His initial assignments took him everywhere in the world the men and women of the Marine Corps deployed as an executive level safety and occupational health consultant, interpreting applicable laws and regulations for application in unique military training and wartime environments.  After two and a half years performing these arduous duties, he transitioned to being responsible for a small city in the form of a Marine Corps Camp and Training Area.  Here, he was responsible for a wide array of industrial and administrative locations, to include sleeping quarters, vehicle maintenance operations, and large hazardous materials storage locations.  Shortly after taking on this challenge, he was promoted to the supervisory position making him responsible for ensuring compliance for all Marine Corps locations spread out across the island of Okinawa, Japan.  Now he has transitioned to working for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in California as the State Safety and Occupational Health Manager. Working for the BLM, his safety and occupational health duties involve construction, laboratory and heavy equipment operations, materials handling and storage, hazardous materials use and remediation, and many other types of operations and locations spread out across more than 16 million acres of Public Lands.
